Crypto-Lock is a versatile, easily installed and
operated single door access control system capable
of operating virtually any electric or magnetic
lock. Its microcontroller based design provides a
high level of PIN security and comprehensive door
monitoring functions.
The unit includes a built-in 12Vdc and 24Vdc, 2A
power supply to power electric and magnetic
locks, eliminating the need for separate power
supply units. The power supply provides the high
in-rush currents required to reliably open heavy
duty locking devices such as the Von Duprin* rim
latch retraction unit and Sargent & Greenleaf
Brute* electric lock. Continuous activation of
large solenoid-operated locks is possible by a
unique current limiting feature. After the lock has
opened the current is automatically limited to a
level that will reliably hold the lock open
indefinitely without damaging its solenoid.
The power supply includes a battery charge and

latch retraction units and Sargent & Greenleaf

unique, switch selectable current limiter. After
the lock has opened this feature limits the current
to a value that will reliably hold the lock
open without damaging the solenoid.

The CC-8946 is a complete integrated
package for providing supervised fire door
delayed egress in high security applications.
It is directly compatible with the central control
modules now in use at many government
offices, embassies and correctional
institutions.
Easy Installation
The single unit measures just 2” high and
mounts to the door frame in the same way as
a standard magnetic lock. A single cable
connects the CC-8946 to the control module.
The only other wiring required is to the
contacts on the door’s push bar.
By eliminating the need to install and wire to a
separate magnetic lock and wall mounted
door panel, the time and effort required for
installation is significantly reduced.
Simple Operation
Operation of the door is simple and intuitive.
In normal operation the magnetic lock
secures the door and the green SECURE
lamp is illuminated. When a person presses
the push bar an alarm sounds and the amber
RELEASE indicator flashes. After a preset
time (5 to 60 seconds) the magnetic lock will
release the door. During the timed interval
the control module will also sound an alarm
and the operator has an opportunity to
override the timed release by pressing a
button on the control module.
A high security key switch on the CC-8946
allows authorized personnel to release the
door.
All other functions of the existing control
module are fully supported.
Low Maintenance
The use of high reliability components, long
life, replaceable indicators greatly extend the
intervals between required servicing. A builtin
test function activates all indicator lamps
and alarms on both at the CC-8946 and the
associated control module.

The current Model CC-8521AN Access Controller has been installed on DDG class vessels since 2001. It is a shipboard version of a similar system used in many U.S government buildings.

The Model CC-8521BN is a next generation unit resulting from experience gained in the shipboard environment and improvements recently incorporated in the land based version.

Crypto-Lock is a versatile, easily installed and operated single door access control system. It provides reliable, secure access control using a single 3, 4, 5 or 6-digit PIN code for all users. It can be used with virtually all magnetic locks and electric locks and door strikes.

The system, pictured in Figure 1-1, includes a built-in 24Vdc power supply to power electric and magnetic locks,
eliminating the need for a separate power supply unit. It provides the voltages and currents required to reliably open standard locking devices including heavy duty locks such as Sargent & Greenleaf BRUTE* electric locks that require high in-rush currents.

The power supply includes a battery charging and monitoring circuit that automatically maintains batteries in a fully
charged condition and activates audible and visual warnings when the charge level is low. Two 12V, 7AH sealed lead acid batteries are housed in the Control Panel.

The length of time during which the lock remains released after entry of the valid PIN is programmable from 3 to 60 seconds. An invalid PIN “Penalty” feature provides for ignoring all keypad entries for 3 to 60 seconds after an invalid digit is entered. Further, if five or more successive invalid PINs are entered the penalty time is set to 60 seconds until the valid PIN is entered. This greatly reduces the possibility of gaining access by guessing PIN codes.

The system provides door monitoring functions through programmable alarms that can be used to notify of a door that has been propped or forced open. Alarms can trigger audible alerts or activate signals for use with external devices or systems. The keypad is weather resistant chrome and stainless steel unit with a 20 ft shielded, water blocking cable. A green LED on the face the keypad signals the recognition of each key stroke and also illuminates when the door is released.

The # button on the keypad activates a horn in the control Panel and also generates an output signal for activating an external 24Vdc device.

Installation and set-up are readily accomplished using the wiring diagram affixed to the inside of the enclosure door and also contained in this manual.

A programming mode (which can only be activated from within the Control Panel) allows authorized personnel to set the PIN and other functions (see Table 5-1) using the keypad.

A visitor button on the keypad activates an internal 95 dB annunciator and also generates an output voltage for an external device.

Installation and set-up are readily accomplished using the wiring diagram affixed inside the enclosure door and clearly labeled terminals and controls. Slide switches set the PIN length (3, 4 or 5 digits), output voltage (12 or 24 Vdc), and enable holding current limiting. Five 10-position DIP switches are used to set the PIN.
