Its hot-swap design allows a failed drive of a RAID disk volume to be
replaced by hot swapping without turning off the server.
Online RAID Capacity Expansion and Online RAID Level Migration
- Online RAID Capacity Expansion
The storage capacity of a RAID configuration can be expanded by
replacing the hard drives with larger ones. All the data will be kept
and seamlessly moved to the newly installed hard drives. There is no
need to turn off the server during the process. Online RAID Level Migration
You can upgrade the disk configuration to higher RAID level with the
data retained without turning off the server.
S.M.A.R.T. & Advanced HDD Health Scanning (HHS)
S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) helps
you monitor the hard disk drives status. VioStor NVR supports HHS (HDD
Health Scan) for disk checking and bad blocks scanning.
Automatic System Startup after Power Recovery
VioStor NVR supports automatic power-on when power resumes after power outage.
UPS Support for 24/7 Service
VioStor NVR supports APC, CyberPower, and MGE UPS devices to provide
continuous services 24/7 against unexpected power outage.
DOM Architecture with Embedded Fail-safe Dual OS for Enhanced Reliability
All the OS and applications of VioStor NVR are embedded on the DOM.
VioStor NVR allows system booting without accessing the physical disk
sectors which prevents unsuccessful system startup caused by bad block
sectors or file errors on the hard drives. Two operating systems are
built on the DOM for system booting alternatively upon every system
startup. When one fails, the other one will be used to boot up instead,
and the failed OS is recoverable from the other healthy OS.
Network Services
Dual Gigabit LAN Ports
- Failover
This mode allows VioStor NVR to sustain the failure of one network port to provide continuous services. - Load-balancing
This mode provides bandwidth aggregation to boost the file transfer
speed (works with managed Ethernet switch with 802.3ad configured). - Multi-IP Setting
Two IP settings can be configured on the NVR to allow network access from two different subnets.
Built-in DDNS Service
VioStor NVR supports dynamic DNS (DDNS). You can register a unique
domain name from a DDNS service provider and assign it to your NVR.
Built-in NTP Server
You can enable this feature to allow the connected IP cameras to
synchronize their date and time settings with the NVR.
Convenient Data Access
The video data of VioStor NVR can be accessed by the following protocols with proper access rights:
- Network Places (SMB/CIFS)
- Web file management (HTTP)
- FTP server
Easy Configuration and Management
System Setup in Simple Steps
You can set up the NVR easily in simple steps by the local display and web-based interface.
Web-based User Interface
All system configurations, monitoring, and playback can be finished by the web-based interface.
Smart Search of IP Camera for Quick Settings
QNAP provides an intelligent software utility Finder for quick IP camera search and system settings.
Excellent Hardware Design
Dual-core Intel® Atom™ Processor and 1GB Memory for Superior System Performance
Powered by dual-core Intel Atom processsor and 1GB memory, VioStor NVR
delivers superior performance for different surveillance applications.
Green NVR Solution: Energy-Saving Linux-embedded System

Note1
When using this hard disk drive model with TS-119 Turbo NAS, the hard
disk drive temperature will be slightly higher.
Note2
As suggested by certain hard disk drive providers, the hard disk drives
of the same brand and series are collectively recognized as compatible
with QNAP products if the largest-capacity drive has passed the
compatibility test.
Note3
If you are using two 1.5TB or 2TB hard disk drives in TS-209, due to an
upper limit of the logical volume capacity, you can only configure the
hard disk drives as single disk volumes or RAID 1 disk volume.
Note4 (WD RE4-GP WD2002FYPS)
For improved stability, you are suggested to contact Western Digital
after Nov 15, 2009 for the new firmware upgrade. Please refer to http://files.qnap.com/download/Forum/WD_New_Firmware_Release.pdf
Note5 (WD Caviar Green)
These hard disk drives have passed QNAP lab's initial verification of
compatibility. However, because many users have reported unstable
experience with these hard disk drives, we do not recommend using these
had disk drives with QNAP products. WD10EADS-00P8B0 and WD15EADS-00P8B0
are not suggested because of slow performance and stability issues.
Note6
To use these models with NMP-1000, please click here to download the hard disk drive compatibility update tool.
Note7 (Advanced Format)
To use these models with QNAP NAS, please upgrade the NAS firmware to
v3.2.5 or later (TS-109/209/409: v3.2.0), backup the NAS data to
another location, and then follow this guide
to re-initialize the hard disk drives to adopt the WD Advanced Format
Technology. Currently these hard disk drives are not compatible with
QNAP NVR.
Note8 (Hitachi 7K1000.C HDS721010CLA332 1TB)
Since the design of the screw position of this hard disk drive model is
slightly different from others, the hard disk drives of 2-bay and 4-bay
Turbo NAS may not be detected properly. Please plug the hard disk drive
tray into the drive bay until it clicks into place to avoid hard disk
drive detection error.
Note9 (WD Desktop Hard Drives)
The hard disk drives have passed QNAP lab's initial verification of compatibility.
However, the manufacturer has suggested not to use the desktop hard
disk drives in business-critical RAID environments because the drives
may not work correctly. Please check this link for more information.
Note10 (Samsung HD204UI 2TB)
To use this hard disk model with QNAP products, please back up the disk
data (if any) and follow the guide below to apply the patch for
improved data integrity.
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/faqView.do?b2b_bbs_msg_id=386
Note11 (3TB HDD)
QNAP NAS supports a disk volume of larger than 16TB. To use these
models with QNAP NAS, please upgrade the NAS firmware to v3.4.0 or
later. A disk volume of less than 16TB of storage can only be expanded
to maximum 16TB by online RAID capacity expansion or adding hard
drives. Online RAID capacity expansion and adding hard drives are not
supported for a disk volume of over 16TB.
Note12 (3TB HDD)
Not applicable to NVR models & TS-509 Pro.
Note13
These hard disk drives have passed QNAP lab's initial verification of
compatibility. However, because many users have reported unstable
experience with these hard disk drives, we temporarily move these hard
disk drives to the Not Recommended Hard Drives list. We are still
investigating on the root cause and we will update the solution later. | |
