The ServSwitch™ Brand Fiber KVM Extender II and II-SM provide digital transmission of keyboard, video, mouse, and audio information on two fibers up to 400 meters (1312.3 ft.) on multimode cable or 10 kilometers (6.2 mi.) on single-mode cable.
Top-quality video Unlike most KVM extenders, which use analog signals, the ServSwitch Brand Fiber KVM Extender II and II-SM use digital signals to maintain top image quality.
The extenders work by digitizing video output from a local CPU, then sends it across fiber optic cable to a remote unit, which converts it back to the original analog signal.
Plus, because the extender uses fiber optic cable, transmissions are immune from electrical interference from sources such as nearby machinery or fluorescent lights.
The Fiber KVM Extender II-SM (ACS251A) transmits digital video, keyboard and mouse signals, and audio up to 10 kilometers (6.2 mi.) across 9/125-µm single-mode fiber.
Go for distance. The ServSwitch Brand Fiber KVM Extender II and II-SM use fiber optic cable for extraordinary reach—up to 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) over single-mode fiber optic cable. Multimode fiber optic cable supports 220 meters (721.7 feet) over 62.5-µm cable or 400 meters (1312.3 feet) over 50-µm cable. Image quality is independent of cable length.
Minimize fiber requirements. The digital video signal is transitted serially over a single fiber at rates up to 1.5 Gbps. The extender uses the second fiber of the fiber pair to send remote mouse and keyboard information back to the local CPU.
Because the extender only needs these two fibers for full operation compared to the five fibers some extenders need, you save money by running less cable.
Wide compatibility. The extender supports many of the most common VGA-compatible video standards (DOS mode, VGA, XGA®, SVGA, or SXGA) at resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 or output refresh rates up to 75 Hz.
The extender also supports all common PS/2® style mice and pointing devices including two-button mice, three-button mice, wheel mice such as Microsoft® IntelliMouse®, trackballs, and more.
Audio, too! In addition to the keyboard, video, and mouse information, the local unit can also digitize audio signals from a local CPU or other audio device and encode it into the digital information sent to the remote unit on the video fiber. The sound quality doesn’t approach high fidelity (it’s converted to monaural if it’s stereo), but is more than adequate for system sounds such as alerts.
Local and remote control. You can also connect an optional local user station (keyboard, monitor, and mouse only) to the local unit. The local unit passes video through to the local monitor and switches the keyboard and mouse. (The local user contends with the remote user for keyboard and mouse control of the CPU—once the active user station is idle for two seconds, the first user to type at the keyboard or move the mouse will be granted control.)
ServSwitch™ Brand CAT5 KVM Extenders make it easy to put your CPUs and ServSwitch KVM switches where you want them. Because these extenders use flexible, inexpensive CAT5 UTP cable, cabling is easy.
he extenders have intelligent keyboard and mouse emulation to prevent remote CPUs from locking up, even if your keyboard or interconnect cable is unplugged.
The Single-Access Kit (ACU1001A) enables you to put one control station up to 1000 feet (304.8 m) from a CPU or a ServSwitch.
With the Dual-Access Kit (ACU1009A), you can have a local control station near your CPU or ServSwitch plus a remote station up to 1000 feet (304.8 m) away.
The Single-Access Kit with Serial Extension (ACU1002A) adds a serial port, which enables you to send KVM signals and serial data up to 1000 feet (304.8 m).
The Dual-Access Kit with Serial Extension (ACU1008A) enables you to have a local control station near your CPU or ServSwitch plus a remote station with a serial device up to 1000 feet (304.8 m) away.
When is a KVM extender not just a KVM extender? When it also comes with a built-in switch!
The BLACK BOX® ServSwitch™ CAT5 KVM Switching Extender extends the distance from a local keyboard, monitor, and mouse to a remote CPU up to 300 meters (984.2 ft.) away. Of course, like all Black Box KVM extenders, this solution provides outstanding video resolutions—1280 x 1024 up to 120 meters (393.7 ft.) and 1024 x 768 up to 300 meters (984.2 ft.).
The ServSwitch CAT5 KVM Switching Extender comes with a local and remote unit, and the remote unit includes fully adjustable controls for brightness and video equalization (focus). Adjustable video equalization enables the extender to compensate for signal degradation over long distances.
With the extender, two user stations can contend for access. When there has been no keyboard or mouse activity detected at one station, the extender switches control to the other station.
How exactly do stations contend for control? Simple. The first user station to press a key or move the mouse gains control of the CPU. And while the other user can view what’s on the monitor, he or she cannot use his or her station’s keyboard and mouse. Once the controling station is idle for 15 seconds, local and remote users begin contention once again.
If the local user gains control and doesn’t want the remote user to view what’s on the monitor, he or she can activate Double Private Mode, which completely disables the remote keyboard, monitor, and mouse. When the local user wants the remote user to view again, Double Private Mode is deactivated.
The ServSwitch CAT5 KVM Switching Extender also features built-in surge protection. It defends your CAT5 link side against harmful spikes and surges.
It’s an extender. It’s a switch. It’s a switch for the better. Choose the CAT5 KVM Switching Extender for your application today.
Stretch your connections, stretch your savings. Micro Extenders stretch CPU-to-workstation connections up to 150 feet (45.7 m) across CAT5 cable—which you may already have installed. Talk about an immediate money saver!
Put ’em where you want ’em. Keep your CPUs out of reach of unauthorized users. Or locate CPUs centrally and keep them away from dirt and dust.
Don’t worry about CPU lockup. Micro Extenders provide intelligent keyboard and PS/2® mouse emulations, so the attached CPU doesn’t lock up even when your keyboard or interconnect cable is unplugged. You can also use an AT® mouse with a GHOST Emulator (AC244A)—to order, click on “Accessories“ button above.
High resolution for crisp video. The Micro Extender Kits feature adjustable video equalization, giving you 1280 x 1024 video at up to 150 feet (45.7 m).
